Location: Hutchins Lake in Fennville MI
Type: Land shaping/ Retaining walls
Year Completed: 2014
The goal was to maximize this lakeside area of the property to gain the most usable space, including space by the waters edge they didn’t have before. Challenges were limited access with equipment and the grade change of 13’ form the walkout and 21’ from the side yard. 200 plus yards of soil was taken out of the hillside to gain space by the waters edge along with the removal of a 36” diameter oak tree hanging over the water.
Allan Block AB Europa was used for the wall material allowing us to gain the most usable space possible. Tears were built into the wall to aesthetically soften the wall and to limit the need for barriers. Stairs and landings were built in with lighting for easy and safe access down to the water. Pea stone, geo-grid and drain tile was used behind every wall to ensure it will pass the test of time. Every block was hand placed and many man hours went into this project with the limited access for equipment. Thank you to the guys who made this one possible!
